Mythology Research
The Pacifica Graduate Institute mythological study program provides the possibility to obtain M.A./Ph. D. In studies of mythology. As the only PhD in the country to explore human experience by studying myth, ritual, religion, literature, psychology, art, interdisciplinary and multicultural subjects, the Myths of Studie program fosters academic, self-intelligent and imaginative study for those who are seeking to understand and express the depths of the psyche. The groundbreaking studies of Sigmund Freud, C.G. Jung, Marie-Louise von Franz, James Hillman and mythologist Joseph Campbell, who learned that myth is capable of touching the program, are highly advised.
Students strengthen their teaching through sequences of unique subjects taught by students who use their specialist teaching as well as renowned faculty members, including Stephen Aizenstat, Susan Rowland, and Joseph Cambray, from other Pacifica programmes. Students are offered publications in a literary journal. In addition, the program is supplemented by an occasional lesson provided in colloquiums by leading guest researchers–including Robert Segal (University of Aberdeen). They will discuss key problems of myth and modern society, including Marie Tatar (Harvard University) and Jeffrey Kripal (Riceuniversity).
